A Not-So-Enchanting Journey To The Isla Del Encanto

A Not-So-Enchanting Journey To The Isla Del Encanto

After our Aruba trip, we felt we were able to successfully extend our airplane range to basically anywhere in the Caribbean. But after three consecutive island resort trips with Ethan (of varying levels of success), we decided we wanted to try something a little more adventurous. With me being sick for much of the Aruba experience, it fell to Ariel to fill most of the days for Jacob and Ethan, and there’s only so much time you can spend at…

Did I find a secret underground passage that connects all the LAX terminals to the AMEX Centurion Lounge (and others)?

Did I find a secret underground passage that connects all the LAX terminals to the AMEX Centurion Lounge (and others)?

The short answer is… sort of? It’s not really “secret” in that it’s pretty well known that there’s a tunnel system underneath the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) terminals post-security (although I don’t think this existed back in 2017 when Ariel and I went to New Zealand), but exactly HOW to navigate this dungeon-like maze is really confusing. There’s no guide anywhere and only a rather unhelpful map of the airport that is extremely light on details. The various lounge/points…

An Unexpected Adventure Getting To Antigua

An Unexpected Adventure Getting To Antigua

After our successful Jamaica trip, we decided we wanted one last hurrah before Ariel went back to work, so we booked a flight to Antigua to stay at the lovely Carlisle Bay. It… did not go as planned. Now to be clear – the place we stayed was beautiful and Antigua itself is very charming! But getting there… and back again… was truly a nightmare that we haven’t experienced in many an age. One of my earliest posts was about…

We Made It To Iceland

We Made It To Iceland

You’ll notice the title does not include the exclamation point I would normally include… Let’s just get right to it – we’re really excited and happy to be here, but man getting here was a classic “not a pony ride in May-sunshine” experience. Our saga started sitting in above-average Belt Parkway traffic on the way to JFK. After getting through security, which for some reason closed the TSA Pre check-in line at 7:30 pm (is this a thing at JFK???),…

Find Your Own Rivendell

Find Your Own Rivendell

When traveling, especially on a long journey, finding an inviting, comfortable, and safe place to get some rest is critical. During the pandemic, when we weren’t traveling as much, it was still important to search for places of refuge from the mundanity and quiet but omnipresent low level anxiety of virus-driven daily life. Regardless of the circumstance, finding an oasis of peace and rest amongst the chaos can go a long way towards restoring both mental and physical stamina. In…

On Pandemic Travel And Getting Back In The Game

On Pandemic Travel And Getting Back In The Game

So this year we resolved to get back to plane travel and go back to doing the things we love best – going on adventures in far off places that cannot be reached by car. After over two years of not being in an airport, it was a little bit of culture shock. Jacob is also much older than the last time we travelled somewhere with him all way back in 2019 when we went to Toronto and Niagara Falls,…
